PROJECT OUTLINE

The £7bn Thameslink programme includes a new viaduct between London Bridge and Blackfriars alongside new and improved stations to accommodate 12-car trains.  This was an ambitious 10-year programme of extensive infrastructure enhancements and the delivery of 115 new trains that have brought faster, more frequent, more reliable, better connected journeys for passengers, transforming north-south travel through London.

Our Value

Temple was responsible for the Environmental Statement which received an outstanding “A” rating for all elements from IEMA.  The ES was delivered in a challenging timeframe and these reports provided the basis for consultation with some 60 stakeholder parties and informed >300 legal agreements to protect residents and businesses and meet relevant environmental requirements.

Temple also led work on enhancing the sustainability credentials of the programme (scheme) including the incorporation of solar panels on the Blackfriars bridge, the world’s largest solar-powered bridge. As part of a project, the roof of the bridge has been covered with 4,400 photovoltaic panels, providing up to half of the energy for London Blackfriars station. The need to meet the St Pauls height restrictions as part of the protected views played a significant part in the design. Temple received a Network Rail award for its innovation and significant contribution to the sustainability elements of the programme which were deemed outstanding.
