Mark Southwood

Chair

Mark is the founder of Temple and now operates as Chair. He is also Director of the holding company Temple Group Management and the founder and trustee of the Southwood Foundation (a registered charity).

He has worked in the public, private and third sector as well as client side on major projects and programmes and holds an MBA from Henley Management College.

He has served on numerous Professional Institutes and European Committees/Working Groups concerned with transport, the environment and related topics and contributed to EU Environmental Action Programmes and policy. He has valuable experience operating at Board level with NGOs including CIRIA (Ceequal) and SECBE, and more recently on NERC, and as an Executive Board Member on joint ventures for major programmes and projects.

Mark has nearly 40 years experience in the environmental sector.  He has assisted many in the formulation of environmental policy and strategy for Government and others and has worked on a significant number of research projects in conjunction with others including research institutes and universities.

He has played a significant role in the planning and delivery of large civil engineering projects and is experienced in identifying environmental and planning risks and managing the same and has acted in an expert capacity at planning inquiries. He has important experience in gaining approvals under DCO, Transport and Works and the Parliamentary Bill process, and in negotiating complex agreements with third parties. He has prepared and implemented numerous environmental management plans and secured relevant environmental and planning consents from Local Authorities and other statutory agencies on a wide range of matters.

His main interests outside work apart from family are natural history, gardening, music particularly jazz, photography, travelling and the outdoors, and most sports.
