The Proposed Development was a redevelopment of a former gasworks site to deliver residential, business, retail, a 6-form entry secondary school, assembly and leisure uses and over 1 hectare of public open space including a riverside park and riverside walk.
The site comprised of a partially remediated gasworks with limited access, complex ecology and a number of surrounding residential receptors. The complete site regeneration included a 20 year construction programme.
Temple were appointed to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and coordinate the preparation and delivery of an Environmental Statement (ES) for submission as part of the planning application. As well as Environmental Impact Assessment Coordination, Temple authored specific EIA Specialist topics chapters such as, socio-economics, air quality, noise & vibration and ecology.
The experienced Environmental Impact Assessment Coordination team were responsive to the client’s needs, identifying risks and suitably managing them early on in the project.
Through agile project management the team responded quickly and effectively to accommodate design development iterations and revisions to data at a late stage in the EIA process. To manage this process the team put in place controls to enable this to be undertaken quickly and accurately so that time sensitive tasks could be managed more efficiently and with added confidence.
Multiple construction phases and long construction build out (20 years) required the development of future years assessment criteria to allow comprehensive assessment of all outline phases.
Ecological expertise was provided on what was a complex ecological site, due to the presence of black redstart, protected invertebrates and bats. Limited site access during survey season required mitigation strategies to be delivered as part of the scheme negating the requirement for further survey predetermination.
