A REVIEW OF LAND TRAIN SYSTEMS ON BEHALF OF ENGLISH HERITAGE
PROJECT Stonehenge Visitor Centre Train Land CLIENT English Heritage SERVICE Strategic Review and Environmental Appraisal PROJECT PERIOD 2003 - 2005

PROJECT OUTLINE

Temple carried out a review of land train systems operating internationally on behalf of English Heritage. The review included the various systems’ environmental and operability, including the primary environmental impacts of air emissions and noise. We considered the various power trains available and advised on the acceptability of each system and appropriate mitigation measures.

We also assessed the noise and air quality impacts of the construction stage contributed to the Construction Management Plan, and negotiated appropriate guideline conditions with the LPA.

Utilising the best available technologies Temple built simulation software models to determine the environmental performance of the proposed land train system and tested the impacts of specific mitigation measures.
