Temple is pleased to announce that one of its planning applications, on behalf of University College London Hospitals Charity (UCLHC) has been shortlisted in the Award for the best affordable housing category at this year’s Planning Awards.
Temple Group along with Llewelyn Davies on behalf of UCLHC put together a joint submission for their work on Middlesex Hospital Annex, Cleveland Street, W1.
The award for planning for affordable housing, recognises the improved physical and environmental quality of a place, the economic or social well-being of a community as well as potential for long-lasting impact, value for money and involvement, and benefit to, local people
The project is on a tight, constrained development including at risk Grade II listed former C18th workhouse, one of only three remaining in London and subject to anticipated and significant archaeological works as well as the restoration and re-use of the listed building. As part of the retained design team, Temple, having obtained permission and listed building consent is also advising on scheme delivery which represents an original approach by a charity to deliver a positive, mixed use development funded by high quality private housing and office space within a newly landscaped and pedestrianised setting. In turn, the development preserves a historic London site at risk of being lost and is delivering over 70% exceptionally good affordable housing.
