Temple awarded Strategic Environmental Assessment and Equalities contract
Press release – 21st August 2018
Temple Group, in partnership with transport consultants Steer, has been awarded a contract to examine the environmental and equalities impacts of transport plans for four boroughs in North London. Through this work, Temple will help provide for a high level of environmental protection and integrate environmental considerations into the preparation and adoption of these plans to promote sustainable development. It will also help the councils to make fairer decisions and satisfy their legal duties relating to equalities.
The study will look at the effects of Local Implementation Plans (LIPs) in Barnet, Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest. The LIPs, due for publication next spring, will set out each council’s proposals for the implementation of London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s Transport Strategy in their areas. As well as identifying environmental effects of the LIPs, how different groups in the community are affected also will be investigated. Actions to avoid or reduce any significant issues that emerge from the analysis will then be recommended. The study will build on similar work that Temple has done with the Greater London Assembly (GLA) on the Mayor’s Strategies for Environment, Health Inequalities, Children & Young People and Food.
Chris Ferrary, Temple’s project director said, “we are extremely pleased to be able to help a number of borough councils examine these important aspects of developing and delivering better transport for Londoners”.
“We also hope this will make implementation of the Mayor’s Strategy greener and fairer in this part of the capital” he added.
