Simon Butler

Senior Director - Environment

Simon joined Temple in 2021 as Senior Director and has more than 20 years experience in environmental management and protection. He is passionate about environmental protection and seeks to enhance the natural landscapes through design improvements and innovation.

He has a proven track record in managing highly qualified technical teams and possesses the leadership qualities to motivate individuals in the pursuit of project excellence.

Simon has worked closely with statutory authorities when securing planning approvals, permits and licenses across a wide range of sectors including energy (nuclear & CCGT power stations, gas pipeline and overhead lines), infrastructure (road, rail and water), and placemaking (housing, shopping centres, and sporting venues). His EIA experience extends to giving evidence at the Hinkley Point C Issue Specific Hearings on EIA and HRA and supporting technical specialist during the Wylfa Newydd Examination.

Simon has worked in both management and leadership positions, providing technical and mentoring support to clients, acting as key client contact on a number of national frameworks (e.g. HS2 and Fusion, Environment Agency, Horizon Nuclear Power Ltd, National Grid, Welsh Water, and the Forestry Commission). In addition to this, Simon has led a Habitats Contracting division under an NEC Framework, managing 20 specialist staff (PMs, ecologists, site managers and sub-contractors) with project values ranging from £50k to £2.5m.

Simon is a Chartered Environmentalist, a qualified auditor and currently applying to become a Fellow at IEMA.
