Mark is the founder of Temple Group and operates as Group CEO and Chairman for both Temple and The Ecology Consultancy Boards.
Mark Southwood has played an important role in the planning and delivery of many high profile civil engineering projects in the UK including CTRL (HS1), HS2, Thameslink Programme, DLR and Tramlink schemes, airports (Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton), road schemes and has a good track record identifying and managing environmental and planning risks. He has led sustainability appraisals, SEAs, EIAs, HIAs and prepared Sustainability Statements and Environmental Statements and acted in an expert capacity. He has contributed to policy and strategy for Government (Defra, DCLG, DfT), GLA, TfL, NwR (and its predecessor Railtrack) and managed research programmes for Government departments and CIRIA. He has served on various Professional and European Committees on transport and the environment.
Prior to founding Temple, Mark worked as a senior manager in the public (London Borough of Hillingdon – Environmental Health) and private (Wimpey Environmental) sector on a wide variety of assignments, including oversight of major developments e.g. Stockley Park, Uxbridge re-development, M40/M4 realignment/widening schemes, Heathrow (T4 and T5 –early stage) and Planning Inquiries and expert witness work.
Mark’s interests outside work includes travelling, photography, music (jazz in particular), classic cars, sport, reading, theatre and films.
