Project Success: Approval for the Gorton Street Development

Temple is delighted to announce that the Gorton Street development has received planning permission.

Gorton Street is poised to become Progressive Living’s largest project yet, transforming a compact site in Salford’s Greengate regeneration area into a vibrant new residential and leisure destination. The 41-story tower will feature 568 self-contained studio apartments and four floors dedicated to amenities. A standout feature will be the landscaped roof terrace and sky bar on the 37th floor, offering sweeping views of Salford, Manchester, and the surrounding areas.

Temple was appointed by Progressive Living to undertake the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) coordination and management role within the project team, alongside preparing the non-technical chapters of the Environmental Statement (ES) and Non-Technical Summary (NTS). The scheme at Gorton Street, which will include the demolition of the existing lean-to building adjacent to the railway arches, will include the construction of a 42-storey building, delivering 569 co-living units with associated amenities, and ancillary facilities (comprising sports facilities and waste storage) in three of the railway arches. The development will integrate sustainable energy sources and provide 303 cycle parking spaces, to promote sustainable transport.

Temple worked with the wider project team to undertake the EIA and coordinate the preparation of the ES for submission as part of the planning application, within the agreed project programme. The experienced EIA team worked seamlessly to advise on potential design risks and provide design input to create sustainable development.

With the scheme set to be built out by 2027, the Temple team is excited to see it progress into a sustainable co-living scheme.
