Our Values

Our EPIC values are important to us and translate into tangible benefits for all of our clients through our work:

    OUR COMPANY VALUES

  • Ethical

We maintain high ethical standards in the way that we run our business

  • Personable

We are approachable and engage in open communication with our clients and collaborators

  • Innovative

We challenge ourselves on every project to improve what we do and how we do it to create advantage for our clients

  • Committed

We bring energy and recognise that our clients’ success depends on the full commitment of a motivated team

How we do things differently

Being independent enables us to provide impartial and objective advice.

We place a strong emphasis on working very closely with our clients and in developing long term collaborations.  This brings important benefits in terms of continuity and understanding.

As a result Temple has forged a long track record of delivering, even in the most demanding situations. Our work ranges from some of the highest profile projects in the UK such as Crossrail, the Shard and HS2, to small, discrete pieces of technical work; for example verification of a carbon footprint, a bird survey or a piece of air quality monitoring.

Our Group Structure

Temple was founded in 1997 by Mark Southwood (our Group CEO) along with a number of other leading environmental and planning specialists. Its parent company Temple Group Management Ltd (formerly Barnards Management Ltd) was established in 1991. Temple is part of a Group of companies that includes The Ecology Consultancy and the Green Infrastructure Consultancy.

OUR COMBINED ADVANTAGE

Temple and The Ecology Consultancy have had a close working relationship over 15 years which offers real benefits to our clients. We have experience across the entire project life cycle from strategy, feasibility, planning, environmental impact assessment and, design through to consenting and construction environmental management. We have secured approvals under many different regimes including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects/Development Consent Orders, Transport and Works Act, Hybrid Bills and Town and Country Planning.

Temple and The Ecology Consultancy also have a deep understanding of how best to address environmental risks on construction projects through our work in collaboration with designers and contractors. This is underpinned by our joint work on projects throughout the UK.

INNOVATION

Our clients feel secure in the knowledge that we will meet and exceed their expectations on all projects from the most challenging and complex to the very niche.  Innovation is a big part of this, whether through an incremental step to improve the way things are done or a big leap forward using a new technology.

We bring together the right team for the job. If certain skills are not available in-house or amongst our Associates we will seek to collaborate to assemble the right blend of skills to think creatively and innovate.

The Temple Innovation Fund allows us to support staff with bright ideas that need a little time and space to come to fruition.  For example we have successfully developed spatial analysis and mapping tools including the Sustainability Options Review Tool (SORTool) that enables a rapid appraisal of infrastructure routes and options.  We have created audio demonstrator tools to better illustrate potential noise impacts to design teams and project stakeholders. This enables us to accurately reproduce background traffic or train noise levels with or without a particular type of mitigation so that individuals can experience the noise rather than talking about decibels. We are also investigating new ways to show aviation noise impacts on the occupation of buildings such as a noise sensitive environment like a school classroom.  In every case the Fund is allowing consultants to develop ways of doing things better for the benefit of our clients and we are always interested in joint research and development projects with our clients to meet particular challenges.

Certifications

We operate an integrated Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) management system that is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.

Our people naturally seek to stay at the leading edge, supported by appropriate professional qualifications and memberships, from the Association of Project Managers to the Royal Town Planning Institute to the Institute of Acoustics.

Temple has also achieved a number of quality standards, certifications and other accreditations.  These accolades underpin how Temple works to a high standard and receives excellent feedback in project delivery.  They include:

  • Investors in People
  • London Living Wage
  • Best Companies
  • Green Construction Board’s Infrastructure Carbon Review
  • Built Environment Commitment
  • Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) Environmental Impact Assessment Quality Mark

“Temple Group’s on-going registration to the EIA Quality Mark scheme highlights the organisation’s commitment to high quality practice that surpasses regulatory requirements to deliver good practice assessments that benefit the environment, decision makers and ultimately their clients. In 2013 Temple went beyond the scheme’s minimum requirements .…This included hosting a number of events and leading roundtable discussions aimed at developing more proportionate approaches to the delivery of effective assessment.”
Josh Fothergill, Chief Examiner: EIA Quality Mark, IEMA
