A railway catalyst for regeneration.
A set of sustainability parameters have been embedded in the Crossrail 2 scheme which is designed to provide a north-south London rail link with more than 10 new underground stations.
Crossrail 2 is a proposed new railway link running north-south across London and serving the wider London area. The £20bn scheme is designed to provide a link between Broxbourne in the north and Epsom, Chessington, Hampton Court and Shepperton in the south. There will be more than 10 new underground stations built as part of the project and upgrades to many along the surface network. It is designed to provide the infrastructure needed to support 200,000 new homes and an improved commuter service into London.
We are part of a consortium which has been developing a number of key sustainability parameters for the scheme before going on to undertake the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to support the application for powers to construct and operate the new railway. In this capacity, we are providing 2 of the project’s 4 environmental managers who have been working with the Transport for London (TfL) and Network Rail (NR) client design teams to embed environmental and sustainability principles into the scheme at an early stage. Issues such as carbon emissions, connecting local communities and the capacity of the route to act as a catalyst for regeneration have all been under consideration.
