LOCIP named ‘greatest contribution to London’ at the ICE London Awards
The London Overground Capacity Improvement Programme (LOCIP) was crowned with the ‘Greatest Contribution to London’ Award, supported by Boris Johnson, at the ICE’s London Awards 2015, held on 14th May at the ICE’s London Headquarters. The project was selected as a winner due to the significant engineering and time constraints overcome whilst still delivering additional capacity to accommodate the ever-increasing number of commuters in East London. The award was presented by the Deputy Mayor Cllr, Victoria Borwick MP AM and ICE President David Balmforth.
The LOCIP team which comprised London Overground, Temple as Environmental Advisor, CH2M Hill as Technical Advisor and Sweett Group as Commercial Advisor successfully delivered 5-car trains on the East London Line in November 2014. The scheme delivered a 25% increase in capacity of the line within just 20 months of TfL Board approval.
Temple is currently working as the Environmental Advisor on the LOCIP, providing advice on all aspects regarding environmental impacts and opportunities, planning strategy and helping to ensure that sustainability was prioritised throughout the project. Temple’s sister company, the Ecology Consultancy, provided ecology services throughout the duration of the project.
Temple’s Katie Anderton, Temple Principal Consultant and Environmental Advisor on the LOCIP, says of the award win; “LOCIP is one of the most interesting, enjoyable and challenging projects I have worked on in London. It is great to see LOCIP being recognised, alongside other significant infrastructure projects, as making a significant contribution to London. It is a fantastic achievement for everyone at London Overground.
London Overground Head of Programme Delivery Hugh Lawson said: ‘Many people across London Overground and our supply chain worked extremely hard to make LOCIP happen. This top award is well deserved recognition for everyone’s hard work’.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson MP, commented “The London Overground Capacity Improvement Programme is a deserving winner of the 2015 Greatest Contribution to London Award. It has transformed the East London line, benefitting commuters and visitors in yet another part of the capital.”
