Project period: |
July to October 2003 |
Project: |
Temple was commissioned to assess the impact of construction works on water quality |
|
Contract value: |
£10,000 |
Services Provided
At Wembley, Temple used a small team with environmental and construction experience. The client engaged Temple to:
-
undertake a survey of water quality at the boundary of the construction works;
-
review environmental control measures within the existing drainage system;
-
review drainage system maintenance; and
-
make recommendations to allow continuous improvement.
We developed a water quality sampling schedule and testing rationale and arranged to take samples over a four week period. The results were compared to environmental quality standards and allowed us to gain an understanding of the relative water quality of site discharges and the nearby brook. By careful observation and by working with site managers and the environmental manager we were able to establish which site practices had the most significant impacts on water quality. We made a number of practical recommendations that would enable the client to minimise the impact of suspended solids. Our recommendations were not only limited to comments on settlement facilities, road cleaning and gully clearances etc; we also looked to the origin of the solids and commented on traffic management and even haul road construction. Benefits
By appointing Temple, the client benefited from:
-
a rapid response and quick verbal feedback;
-
an independent ‘best practice’ audit;
-
robust and reliable environmental monitoring data;
-
practical improvement recommendations and advice on problem prevention.
