Services provided
Temple was commissioned by Defra to carry out a research contract to provide a Noise Management Guide for England, Wales and Northern Ireland for the enforcement of noise controls and co-ordination of Local Authority corporate noise policy.
To determine the way in which noise services were provided across a spectrum of local authorities, Temple carried out a survey of 387 LAs, incorporating a number of in-depth interviews and focus group meetings. The project resulted in a roll out to LAs in locations across the UK including Belfast. Temple have now fully updated the Noise Management Guide with all new and emerging legislation reflecting the law of nuisance relating to noise. The 250 page document contains numerous examples of best practice within local authorities.
Benefits
The consultation draft document has been met with critical acclaim and is now being used as a benchmark in determining the levels of services to be provided. It is also providing model policies and pro-formas to assist LAs in the provision of consistent and robust services.
