Temple Divisional Director, Tony Draper was instrumental in instigating and managing two projects based on the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit's neighbourhood management approach.
The projects were based in different parts of the Borough, and the needs of the local communities were significantly different. In one area the key issue was the need to build community engagement, in the other it was to tackle anti social behaviour.
The projects were set up along the same principles as the Pathfinder models, but with significantly less funding. Despite this, good gains were made in both areas in improving against the floor targets used to assess performance of neighbourhood management approaches.
In both instances, benefits arose either in reducing spend in other blocks of Council expenditure (reduced vandalism) or in levering in funding from external organisations.
Relevance
The use of Neighbourhood management principles shows a detailed understanding of the methods used to assess levels of deprivation (floor targets), and also illustrates that our organisation contains knowledge and experience which can be applied in a practical way to reduce levels of deprivation and increase community engagement and influence.
