Client:

Sixt Kenning Ltd

Project period:

March –July 2002

Project:

Temple provided specialist environmental advice in light of potential litigation

Contract value:

£30,000

Services Provided

Temple provided specialist environmental advice in light of potential litigation due to alleged off-site hydrocarbon migration from an operational garage site at Cathedral Road, Derby.  Services included:

  • Collation, review and interpretation of historical data (desktop study);
  • Commissioning and managing a number of targeted phase II investigations by quality assured contractors;
  • Development of conceptual and risk models;
  • Interpretation of results in light of Part IIA of EPA 1990;
  • Liaison with statutory bodies; and
  • Specialist advice on recommended remedial works.

 Benefits

As advisors to Sixt Kenning we were able to bring technical & site management expertise. This resulted in:

  • Significant cost savings through use of reputable contractors combined with in-house contaminated land experts.
  • Provision of experienced leading technical experts able to review and interpret a wide range of detailed information.
  • More effective communications between the statutory bodies, our client and contractors. We provided a central role in these communications and found we were better able to articulate EA and LA requirements, whilst ensuring that EA and LA demands were not excessively onerous or unreasonable (this required considerable skill re. negotiations).
  • Temple’s advice was able to prevent the need for expensive and time consuming legal action through carefully designed remedial works.
  • Provision of a small flexible team able to respond rapidly to changing requirements.
