Corporate Social Responsibility
Background
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is about how businesses align their values and behaviour with environmental and social principles and the expectations and needs of stakeholders including regulators, customers, the local community, investors and employees.
A CSR policy sets out a company’s commitment to be accountable to all its stakeholders and clearly demonstrates that the company is prepared to ‘go beyond’ what is required in a regulatory sense.

CSR provides a tool to identify risks and opportunities to an organisation, in terms of its potential impacts on the environment and society.
CSR will also bring a competitive market advantage.
Through an effective CSR policy, companies can:
-
Improve access to capital;
-
Improve decision making;
-
Enhance brand awareness amongst stakeholder groups;
-
Set a good example;
-
Identify previously hidden commercial opportunities;
-
Reduce costs; and
-
Attract, retain and motivate employees.
