Sound Insulation Testing
Service Definition
The current edition of Part E in Schedule 1 to the Building Regulations 2000 (as amended) came into force on 1 July 2003. At the same time, new regulations introduced pre-completion testing for sound insulation as a means of demonstrating compliance.
The regulations apply to new and converted residential buildings. Unless Robust Details are used, the new Approved Document E requires pre-completion noise insulation testing for at least a minimum of 10% of properties for each construction type on a development. Pre-completion testing applies to rooms for residential purposes, houses and flats formed by conversion of other buildings.
Services Offered
Testing must be carried out by suitably qualified and competent assessors and the "ODPM regards members of the ANC Registration Scheme as suitably qualified to carry out pre-completion testing." Temple Group is a member of the Association of Noise Consultants and is an accredited member of the registration scheme. UKAS and the ANC are the only accreditation bodies approved by the ODPM to test party walls and floors in accordance with the procedures set out in the ADE.
We offer a complete range of services in building acoustics from preliminary advice and design through to diagnostic investigations and specification of remedial treatment. We aim to work with Building Control authorities and developers alike, throughout the whole design and build process, to ensure that effective design solutions are adopted and costly failures are prevented.
Our Experience
We have considerable experience in conducting airborne and impact sound insulation tests in accordance with the Approved Document E and we have state-of-the-art equipment able to test floors, ceilings and walls.
Our sound insulation tests are carried out in full accordance with BS EN ISO 140 and BS EN ISO 717.
