Benefits
As part of the BBMP team we were able to bring technical and site management expertise. This resulted in:
significant cost savings (which more than paid for our fees!). Considerable time and effort was put to de-lineating between special and non-hazardous waste which realised large cost savings. The methods we employed re. sampling, analysis and on-site validation were critical to the success of this strategy.
mentoring of BBMP and site personnel on technical and safety matters (we facilitated regular briefings and “tool box talks”).
more effective communications between the Environment Agency, Local Authority and Contracts. We provided a central role in these communications and found we were better able to articulate EA and LA requirements to site personnel whilst ensuring the EA and LA demands were not excessively onerous or unreasonable (this required considerable skill re. negotiations).
some innovative and cost effective environmental monitoring. We introduced new methods and monitoring techniques as well as equipment (the latter facilitated remote access) which led to a more coherent and robust approach to monitoring and more timely intervention to operations as necessary.
an “Environmental Award” (2001/2) was presented to BBMP– Quality Management Awards (in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the environment).
